Welcome to German Sports Cars

Germany has always been reknowned for manufacturing some of the best cars in the world and Mercedes have had the accolade of producing THE best car in the world - the Mercedes S Class. In fact Carl Benz(of Daimler Benz and later Mercedes Benz) is generally regarded as the inventor of the gasoline-powered automobile, holding the patents that enabled the petrol engine to be used in a car, the Benz Patent Motorwagen(1885) was the first automobile entirely designed as such to generate its own power. In time Benz & Cie would produce a record breaking car called the Blitzen Benz, this would hold the land speed record of 141.94mph for 10 years, it was not only heralded as the land speed record but it was probably the speed record for any vehicle at the time including aircraft. The record was set at Brooklands by Victor Hemery(French).

Later on Benz would patent the flat or Boxer engine as used by Ferdinande Porsche in his design for the peoples car, the Volkswagen and later in the design for the Porsche series of sports cars.

VAG or Volkswagen Audi Group have produced some of the fastest production cars in the world possibly under other names such as Lamborghini and Bugatti, with the Bugatti Veyron being hailed as the Concorde of the automotive world and reaching the pinnacle of production automotive speed design.
